Maintenance,
Repairs & Refits
Dodson Boatyard employs approximately 40 full time technicians including
ABYC certified mechanics, riggers, carpenters, fiberglass specialists,
varnish application brush, spray painters, sail and canvas repair. Stainless
steel fabrication services are also available. We specialize in complete
keel to masthead maintenance of our mooring and storage boats, but frequently
carry out extensive refit and repair projects as well. Our complete maintenance
program begins with thorough systems inspections at fall haul out followed
by written recommendations to owners. Through regular communications with
owners DBY strives to prepare each boat for a trouble free season by the
time of their spring launch. Dodson Boatyard and Stonington Harbor are
also popular summer cruising destinations for yachts and yacht club cruising
with in excess of 3000 transient boats visiting our facilities each summer.
Of course, DBY staff makes every effort to assist our guests with repairs
necessary to minimize any interruption in their cruising schedule.

Winter Storage
We offer both indoor and outdoor storage. As each boat is hauled,
it is inspected by the mechanics and riggers looking for areas which need
attention. Each owner is notified of their findings, and frequently all
situations can be addressed by launching time in the spring. Our facilities
include several work buildings that are insulated, heated and ventilated
to allow efficient working conditions even when it is cold and nasty outside.
All spars are inspected during lay up and stored inside for the winter.
We do not store spars outside. There is a special storage area for outboard
motors and dinghy equipment. All electronic equipment is removed from
all boats and stored in the rigger's loft. There are special bins for
storage of mattresses, cushions, and bedding as well as sails. We are
equipped to shrink-wrap boats which in certain cases is better than conventional
frame and canvas cover installations.
